Newly opened bridge gets stuck during rush hour
Traffic was halted after a new bridge became stuck during morning rush hour.
The £145m Gull Wing Bridge in Lowestoft, Suffolk, which only opened to pedestrians and motorists on Saturday, became stuck during a "routine lift", Suffolk County Council said.
“We apologise for the temporary disruption caused by a minor issue with the Gull Wing this morning," the council said.
"We are pleased to report that it was quickly resolved, and traffic is flowing smoothly.”
The long-awaited bridge had planned to open last year but faced several delays.
There have been calls for a third river crossing in Lowestoft for many decades and plans for the bridge were approved in 2015.
It is the third crossing over Lake Lothing, which runs through the centre of town.
A formal civic opening and naming ceremony for the bridge is to take place on 19 November.
