Abandoned newborn baby found in box with note in front of medical centre

A newborn has been found abandoned outside a Perth medical centre and police are concerned for his mother’s welfare.

The baby boy was taken to Perth Children’s Hospital after being found in a box in front of a medical centre at Booragoon, in the city’s south, on Wednesday morning.

The infant’s mother left a note alongside the baby pleading for someone to take care of her child.

Police have said that the baby, who the mother’s note said, is named Raheel, appears to be in good health.

Officers said the baby was only hours old and he was umbilical cord was still attached when he was found wrapped in a dirty towel.

Concerns are held for the infant’s mother as she may require medical attention.

Police said she was not in trouble and they want her to know that help is available and that her baby is safe and well.

They are now reviewing CCTV footage in the area to see if they can find the woman.
