New Zealand's hilarious appeal to be included on world maps
Eagle-eyed Kiwis have noticed a troubling trend around the globe – New Zealand is being forgotten on world maps, and they have the pictures to prove it.
On a hilarious Reddit page, thousands of users have posted photos of world maps all missing the same feature – “The Land of the Long White Cloud”.
The appeal has grown so large it is now become the country’s latest tourism campaign, starring comedian Rhys Darby and New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
Featuring the hashtag, “Get NZ on the Map”, the ad revolves around an investigation as to why the country has disappeared from maps around the world.
Darby uncovers possible motives for rival countries to keep New Zealand hidden in a clever way to spruik the country’s highlights.
“They’re stealing our tourists,” he says of Australia before accusing France of trying to cover up New Zealand’s renowned wine industry.
He then focuses on England who left New Zealand off their Rugby World Cup promotion in 2014.
“You missed it off by accident?” Darby says in a phone call.
“Are you sure? Or is England trying to get rid of the All Blacks once and for all?”
The ad received close to 30,000 views in its first three hours on Facebook, with some viewers continuing the trend and posting photos of maps they have spotted without New Zealand.

Some popular examples from Reddit include flawed maps from Ikea, Domino’s, universities, boardgames – and even the New Zealand government’s own website.
When the site goes to an ‘error’ page, a world map appears which ironically does not include New Zealand.
