Jets S Marcus Maye facing charges after Florida DUI arrest, car crash

New York Jets safety Marcus Maye is facing multiple charges after a DUI arrest following a car crash he was involved with in February in Florida, according to ESPN.

Maye was arrested on Feb. 22 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and charged with driving under the influence, damage to property and person and leaving the scene of a crash, per the report. Maye posted a bond, and is due back in a digital court hearing later this month.

The NFL and the Jets, who were apparently not aware of the arrest until this week, are reviewing the incident.

"It is an ongoing legal matter and our attorney has advised us we cannot comment,” Maye’s agent told ESPN. “We are confident it will be positively resolved. We look forward to Marcus getting back on the field soon."

Maye, per the report, was driving by himself on Feb. 22 when he allegedly crashed into the back of another car around 7:30 p.m. There were no injuries involved with the accident, though the driver of the other car has filed a civil lawsuit against Maye and is seeking more than $30,000 in damages.

Maye was allegedly “unresponsive” and “moving side to side” when he was approached by officers — who reportedly found him in his car north of where the crash took place — per the New York Post, and “seemed unaware of what was occurring.” An officer said in a police report that he saw vomit on the driver’s side door of Maye’s car and could smell alcohol on his breath.

Maye reportedly declined to give officers a breath sample on site, and was arrested.

Maye, 28, has recorded 23 total tackles and had one sack so far this season with the Jets. He missed their 27-24 overtime win against the Tennessee Titans last week due to an ankle injury, which is expected to sideline him for about a month.

The former Florida standout had a career-high 88 tackles and two interceptions last season with the Jets. He signed a one-year, $10.6 million deal with the team before the season.
