New sentencing laws pass in WA

Violent criminals can now be subject to a post-sentence supervision order, including GPS tracking, after laws were passed in the West Australian parliament.

Attorney-General Michael Mischin said the reforms to the sentencing laws targeted serious offenders, and gave a greater voice to victims and their families.

Under the changes, the Prisoners Review Board can place a two-year post-sentence supervision order on people convicted of violent crimes and other serious offences such as arson.
