Zhao was reportedly bound with zip ties, sexually assaulted and set on fire before she died, according to court documents. Morris and Zhao were reportedly together at a motel the night Zhao was killed. Morris claims Zhao left the motel around midnight, but records show Zhao’s cell phone was still at the motel at 5 a.m. that morning, according to FOX 11 Los Angeles.

Morris was also captured on surveillance cameras leaving the motel and driving to the park where Zhao’s body was found. Police found a baseball bat and bloody sheets in Morris’ car.

Police have not provided information about Zhao’s death

Police have not revealed how Morris and Zhao knew each other. Officials have also not discussed a motive for the killing. When Zhao’s body was found, the White Lake Township Police Department attempted to determine whether Zhao’s death was linked to her profession. The White Lake Township police force was also working with the FBI to solve the case.
