Coronavirus fragments have been found at two wastewater treatment plants, accounting for more than 100 Queensland suburbs, after six new coronavirus cases were confirmed.

On Monday, the sunshine state confirmed six new Covid-19 cases in hotel quarantine, taking the state's active cases to 38. It also comes after a doctor at Princess Alexandra Hospital tested positive.

Virus fragments were found at two wastewater treatment centres in Queensland — Cairns North and Luggage Point.

Those treatment centres take samples from 113 suburbs. Scroll down to see a complete list of suburbs.

Health minister urges people to get tested

Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young is urging anyone with fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, fatigue, diarrhoea, nausea or vomiting, and loss of taste or smell to come forward for testing.

"It is very important people with symptoms come forward right away and get tested – we can't be complacent, we're still in this pandemic," she said.

"It is critical we detect any cases that we may not be aware of as quickly as possible through our testing system, to contain any potential spread."

Dr Young said health authorities are concerned about the new variants of the virus emerging overseas — which are more contagious than strains detected in Queensland.

She also acknowledged the detection of fragments may be related to previously identified Covid cases, as viral fragments can shed for months after the person is no longer infectious.
