New book reveals text message Robert Kraft sent to Tom Brady after he said he was leaving Patriots

How did New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft react to losing the greatest quarterback of all time? Thanks to a new book, we know what Kraft told Tom Brady shortly after being informed Brady was leaving the Patriots.

Kraft sent the text roughly a half-hour after meeting with Brady, according to “The Dynasty,” a new book by Jeff Benedict. Kraft began that text by telling Brady, “I love you more than you know.”

Alone in the doorway, Kraft waved as Brady’s taillights disappeared in the darkness. Thirty minutes later, sitting alone in his house, Kraft texted Brady: “Love you more than you know for being so classy in everything you do. Your parents should be so proud. I love them for creating you. You are truly one of a kind.”

That excerpt was shared in Peter King’s “Football Morning in America” column Monday.

Tom Brady and Robert Kraft have always been close

Brady had similar feelings when he relayed the news to Kraft. While appearing on “The Howard Stern Show”, Brady revealed he also used the L-word when talking to Kraft.

“I went over and said, ‘Look, I just want to say I love you and appreciate what we’ve done and know that we’re not going to continue together, but thank you,’” Brady said.

Both Brady and Kraft cried during that meeting.

None of that should come as a surprise. Brady and Kraft have had a good relationship over the years. Kraft has said he loves Brady “like a son.”

Tom Brady hopes to add to legacy in Tampa Bay now

After that emotional goodbye, Brady will look to continue adding to his Hall of Fame numbers as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brady signed with the team in March, and will look to lead the Bucs back to the playoffs for the first time since the 2007 season.

Brady’s former team will look to continue its unprecedented run of success with a new quarterback in the fold. After waiting out the free-agent market, the Patriots signed former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton in June.

If Newton is healthy, and Brady still has something left in the tank, Brady and Kraft could be in for a reunion at Super Bowl LV. If that happens, only one of them will walk away from that meeting in tears.
