Netball community rallies around family of girl, 8, who died in horror crash

Netball players have paid tribute to an eight-year-old girl who died in a head-on crash in Queensland’s southeast.

The Oxenford State School student was travelling with her family on her way to a netball carnival in Bundaberg when the accident occurred near Childers.

Players wore black armbands in honour of the young girl on Saturday.

The girl’s team, the Coomera Netball Club, have asked people to ‘dig deep’.

“This is a particularly sad and raw event right now,” Netball Queensland chief executive Catherine Clark said.

On the Coomera Netball Club’s Facebook page, the committee confirmed with ‘a very heavy heart’ that three of their club members were involved in the fatal car crash.

A member from our under 8 Avalanche team sadly passed away while travelling to a school netball event, we currently have one of our senior coaches and her granddaughter in hospital with serious injuries,” the post said.

“We offer our deepest condolences to the families involved, we cannot even begin to imagine what you might be going through at this very sad time.

“We as a club need to rally round and help these families through this very rough time right now.”
