Naked Aussie's heroics after partner run over during home invasion

A Queensland woman has recalled the moment she was run over by her own car during a "terrifying" home invasion as her naked partner threw himself onto the vehicle desperately trying to save her.

Karyn Dawson said she was confronted by two “masked intruders” after walking into the kitchen of her Townsville home early on Monday morning.

The 42-year-old told Sunrise she initially thought the disruption was her partner David Searle getting a glass of water, but was “quite shocked when it was not a naked man”.

“I said ‘get out of this house’ and chased them straight out, the front but then I noticed my car reversing and I went with it,” she said. Shocking CCTV footage of the alleged theft shows Ms Dawson trying to break the vehicle’s window as the driver reverses out of the driveway.

“I was a bit angry and I had the TV remote in my hand so I was trying to smash the window because I knew he had locked himself in the car and there was no way I could open the door,” she said. “The car started reversing and I tripped and went under it.”

“I was asleep and had no idea what was going on until I heard screams out the front,” Mr Searle told the ABC. "I sleep naked, like some do, and I had nothing on me to defend myself. I tried to stop the car and stop them driving over Karyn."

Ms Dawson, who suffered internal bruising and skin abrasions on her legs and arms, told the ABC the car — which was brand-new and wasn’t yet insured — “actually went over” her stomach.

The couple said the entire ordeal “happened really, really quickly” and has left them “in total disgust” and in fear of their safety. They said they have security cameras inside and outside of their home, but are concerned that they didn’t seem to deter the alleged thieves.

Their SUV was reportedly later found dumped and damaged. Queensland Police confirmed to the ABC two 16-year-old boys have been charged over the alleged burglary. Yahoo News Australia has contacted police for comment.

The incident comes just weeks after mum-of-two Emma Lovell, 41, died following an alleged home invasion in North Lakes, Brisbane.
