Nail salon employee at Sydney Westfield was infectious while at work

A nail salon worker in Sydney’s south has been diagnosed with coronavirus.

Dr Vicky Sheppeard, deputy director of the Public Health Unit for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District, told Yahoo News Australia the person was infectious while working at Professionail, Westfield Hurstville on 22 and 23 July.

“This person is associated with the funeral cluster from south west Sydney and was previously counted in the public health alert issued on 27 July, 2020,” Dr Sheppeard said in a statement.

“There is no broader risk at Westfield Hurstville as all close and casual contacts of the confirmed case have already been identified.

“The business conducted a deep clean, and public health officers confirmed appropriate cleaning and other COVID-Safe measures are in place.”

NSW announced 19 new cases of the virus on Wednesday.

It prompted NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian to bring in new rules at the gym – requiring a COVID-19 officer to be on site for all times during operation.

Queensland has also declared Greater Sydney a virus hotspot and people travelling from the region cannot enter Queensland from 1am Saturday.
