Mystery surrounds death of man and woman at caravan park

Police are treating the deaths of a man and a woman at a Queensland caravan park as a double murder.

Detectives have not said how many people they are hunting for after a woman, 60, was found dead in her van, and a man, 63, was found with severe head injuries outside his van.

A resident of the Calliope Caravan Park, south of Gladstone, found the injured man about 5pm on Thursday and raised the alarm. The victim was taken to hospital but could not be saved.

The woman was already dead when police searched her caravan nearby.

Police believe the pair are a couple but lived in separate caravans.

They have not said what caused their deaths, but it’s understood no guns were involved.

Detective Inspector Darrin Shadlow said it’s believed the pair was attacked between 3.30pm and 4.40pm on Thursday.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have noticed or heard something or seen anyone suspicious …. to contact us,” he said.

Both caravans are now crime scenes with detectives to return to the van park on Friday.
