Mystery over man pulled from water

Police are investigating after an unconscious man was unable to be identified after he was pulled from the water at a Sydney beach.

Emergency services were called to Maroubra Beach just after 11:30am after a man was spotted having difficulty in the water off the north rocks.

Police have been told the man was swept into the water while rock fishing.

By the time his body was found by authorities, which included lifeguards, police and a rescue helicopter, he was unconscious in the water.

The man in his 50s or 60s was pulled from the water by lifeguards on Jetskis who initiated CPR.

CPR was continued on the beach until paramedics arrived and he was rushed to St George Hospital.

As he remains in a critical condition and police are unable to identify him or his next of kin, they are appealing for assistance from the public.

“The man is described as being of Asian appearance, approximately 160cm to 170cm tall, slim build, olive complexion, and black/grey hair,” police described.

A rescue helicopter was called in to help with the search effort.

“He was wearing long black pants, white long-sleeved button shirt with a grey cardigan, along with a black vest and white speckled boots.”

The man had a blue Nike backpack and fishing gear with him.
