Mystery as man dies outside home

A man has died after an alleged assault on the New South Wales/Queensland border.

Emergency services were called to a property on William Street in Tweed Heads, NSW, about 3.15am on Sunday morning after reports of an alleged assault.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 39-year-old man lying unconscious on the ground in front of the house.

Police performed CPR to try and revive the man until paramedics arrived, but he could not be saved. He died at the scene.

The man is yet to be formally identified.

“We’re not entirely sure exactly what’s happened at this stage, but inquiries are continuing,” said NSW Police Superintendent Michael Dempsey.

“It appears that there was an altercation at the scene.”

While it not yet confirmed the cause of death, NSW Police believe the man “sustained some head injuries”.

Police believe only one other person was involved, and are yet to confirm whether a weapon was used during the alleged altercation.
