Mystery as body found on Melbourne street
Police have launched an investigation after a man’s body was found outside a boarding house in inner Melbourne.
The 55-year-old man was found dead outside the Ivy Grange guest house on Malsbury St just after 6:30am on Sunday.
It’s understood he was found with injuries to his face.
Officers were seen flooding the street as they began their investigation, with forensic officers seen looking into the death.
“The exact circumstances surrounding the death are yet to be determined and the investigation remains ongoing,” police said in a statement.
The Ivy Grange is a 41-room boarding house listed as crisis accommodation for those over 25.
People are often seen loitering outside the boarding house, a neighbour told The Herald Sun.
“There is always something going on,” he said.
“I always see people sitting out the front smoking.”
“Everyone in the neighbourhood says when people get out of prison that is the first place they register their address.”
It’s not the first death to rock the guest house, with a 29-year-old’s body found on a roof after he was stabbed in 2014.
The stabbing occurred after a “violent altercation” between three people broke out in the building, police said at the time.
Victoria Police said they believed the injured man tried to escape after the brawl by breaking through a closed window, landing on the roof where he was discovered.
