Mystery after body found inside campervan at NSW rest stop

A man's body has been found inside a campervan parked at a northern NSW rest stop, with the vehicle's drawers lying open and a generator missing.

Police found the body at the Goonoo Goonoo Station on the New England Highway south of Tamworth on Monday morning.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District were called to the location about 11.45am after receiving reports over concerns for someone’s welfare.

They noted a generator which had previously been seen at the site was now missing.

Police appealing for help from the public

The man is yet to be identified and police say the events leading up to the man's death remain unclear.

While it’s not known if the man’s death is suspicious, detectives have established an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have dashcam footage taken in the area, or who may have seen the vehicle at the rest stop to contact police.
