Lotto winners' $2.5m Valentine's Day shock: 'Just collapsed'

A NSW couple is having a Valentine’s Day to remember after discovering their $2.5 million Saturday Lotto win.

The lucky pair from Rutherford took home one of eight division one winning entries across Australia in Saturday Lotto draw 4233, drawn Saturday, February 12 – each scoring $2.5 million.

“Hang on a second. Are you telling us we’ve won division one? That we’re multi-millionaires now?” the winning husband questioned an official from The Lott over the phone.

The shocked winner had been spending Valentine’s Day with his wife, happily working in the garden, when he was disrupted by the news of their $2.5 million Saturday Lotto win.

“Are you kidding me? Oh my god! Oh my god! My wife has just collapsed into a puddle of happy tears,” he screamed.

“Happy Valentine’s Day to us!” the winning man said, before confessing he had been dreaming of this moment all his life.

The winners explained that they had just been discussing the fact they wouldn’t be able to retire for years, but now it looked like an early retirement might be on the cards.

“We’ll pay off our mortgage first, and then we’ll go and buy ourselves a caravan. My wife wants to retire and just travel around the country, so that’s what we’ll do,” the man said.

“I was going to go out and mow the lawn this morning, and my wife was going to do some gardening, but maybe we’ll pay someone to do that now!” he laughed.

Following the life-changing news, the NSW couple decided to hang up the gardening tools and go some fancy to celebrate the win.

“After that, we might go shopping for a caravan and start planning our big adventure!”
