A man accused of fatally stabbing another man in the stomach in North Queensland has been charged with murder.

The altercation took place in Ingham, about 100km north of Townsville late on Sunday night.

First aid was provided to the 20-year-old at the scene before paramedics took him to Ingham Hospital in a critical condition, where he later died.

The 24-year-old man handed himself in at the Ingham Police Station on Thursday morning and was also charged with a breach of domestic violence order and breach of bail.

Detective Inspector Chris Lawson said the domestic violence offence related to one of the women the victim was with at the time.

"They obviously need the privacy and a bit of time to comprehend what's occurred because it's obviously someone that they knew," he said.

Police are yet to identify a weapon.
