A man has been charged with murder after a street brawl in regional Victoria left another man dead.

The fight broke out in Wangaratta on Saturday, May 20 and four of the five men involved were taken to hospital.

A 41-year-old man, who was airlifted to Melbourne with life-threatening injuries, later died.

A Wangaratta man, 23, had his charges upgraded from assault to murder, police said on Wednesday.

Another Wangaratta man, 27, was charged earlier this month with recklessly causing injury, unlawful assault and committing an indictable offence whilst on bail.
