A murder investigation has been launched after a young boy suffered serious injuries and later died in hospital.

Thames Valley Police said officers were called to a property in Priestwood Square, Bracknell, Berkshire, on Wednesday 20 November.

A child had sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital, a spokesperson said.

He died of his injuries on Friday, at which point a 25-year-old man from Bracknell was arrested on suspicion of murder.

The man has since been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

The force has not confirmed the age of the boy.

Det Supt Andy Howard said it was an "exceptionally tragic incident".

He said: “Although formal identification has not yet taken place, the boy’s next of kin are aware and my thoughts, and the thoughts of all of us at Thames Valley Police, are with them at this extremely difficult time.

“There is a scene-watch in place at the address while the investigation continues."

He added that they were in the "very early stages" of their investigation.
