Mum's warning after son's horrific injuries running on the beach
WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT. A mother has issued a warning to parents after her son was left with horrific injuries from running on the beach.
Crista Dight had taken her son Kai to Teewah Beach, north of Noosa Heads in Queensland, earlier in the week when the soles of his feet were seriously burned from something underneath the sand.
The little boy was rushed to hospital and shocking photos show his skin completely swollen and blistered.
Ms Dight said the little boy had stood on a fire pit that hadn’t been completely extinguished.
“Please don’t use sand to cover up your campfires, it retains the heat and kids cannot see the fire underneath the sand,” the mother wrote on Facebook.
Kai’s feet were left with serious burns and he underwent surgery on Tuesday at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital.

“Unfortunately a tiny section under one of Kai’s toes was deeper than they thought, so he is back to theatre on Friday to see if a skin graft is needed,” Ms Dight said.
“He is feeling sick tonight but we are lucky to have awesome doctors and nurses around to make him feel better.”
Ms Dight hopes Kai’s experience will serve as a warning to others to properly extinguish their beach fires.
” Hopefully one positive to come out of this is the awareness that you cannot cover a fire with sand,” she said.
