Mum's terrifying Facebook post before being found dead at home

A Wollongong woman believed to be murdered in her home had previously been stalked by a former acquaintance, according to her own Facebook page.

Kristie Powell, 39, was found dead in her house at Bellambi, south of Sydney, just after 1am on Friday.

Her five-month-old boy was discovered in his bedroom nearby “uninjured and unharmed”.

Detective Inspector Brad Ainsworth said the woman was found with a “significant amount of blood on her and some injuries”.

“We’re treating it as a homicide no doubt,” he told reporters in Wollongong.

Ms Powell earlier this year revealed on Facebook someone she formerly knew had become “obsessed” with her and become “a stalker”.

She said he called himself “the Reaper” and sent threatening messages saying “Die”.

Det Insp Ainsworth, when asked about her social media posts, stated: “Facebook reviews will form part of our investigation.”

The victim lived alone in the house with her five-month-old son.

A friend of the woman found her body and called triple-0.

The baby was found in the bedroom “uninjured and unharmed” while the 39-year-old’s body was found outside her bedroom, Det Insp Ainsworth said.

The infant was initially taken to hospital but is now in the care of his grandparents.

Investigators are now looking through CCTV footage from nearby houses and businesses.
