Mum's horror find in Big W juice: 'It's contaminated'
One woman says she got more than the bonus toy when she purchased a Disney Frozen fruit juice for her daughter, finding an unsavoury extra floating in her daughter's fruit drink.
The mum purchased the bottles of apple juice from her local Big W for her kids, which contains a surprise toy within the wrapper of the drink.
However when she peeled back the drink's plastic covering she made an unsettling discovery — finding chunks of mould floating in the bottom of the bottle and under the lid of one of the bottles.
"One of the drinks was totally fermented and contained huge chunks of black [and] green mould," the shocked mum wrote in a post to a private Facebook group, adding that the manufacturing date was June 26, 2021.
"I have raised this issue with local management and they have raised an urgent complaint with their head office and the drinks supplier/manufacturer," she continued.
"Neither of my daughters are displaying any health concerns however I will monitor them and keep the store updated."
Fellow shoppers horrified
Hundreds of replies from concerned parents flooded the post, some saying they had also experienced mould in the drinks.
"My son always gets sick when he drinks these!!" one woman commented under the post. "Now I need to check. Thank you for this."
"My daughter drinks these all time," added another. "Will check them out all the time now."
"This is not the first time I've seen kids drinks like these ... going off," another wrote. "I never buy them but if you do always peel back any labels so you can see what your children are drinking."
A spokesperson from Big W said they are investigating the matter.
“The health and safety of our customers is our priority at Big W and our teams are committed to delivering every day great value, quality products," they told Yahoo News Australia.
