Mum's bizarre way of teaching son drink driving lesson

A mum allegedly got behind the wheel of her car and drove drunk in order to “teach her son a lesson,” according to an arrest citation.

Sunita Jairam from Kentucky, south eastern US, was arrested on Sunday and charged with drunken driving and endangering the welfare of a minor, according to local outlet the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Ms Jairam had allegedly consumed “a bunch of beer” before climbing into her 2014 BMW X1 for a joy ride with her young son at 12.51am.

Ms Jairam had been drinking all day, according to the arrest citation.

Her son told police he had tried to escape from the vehicle several times “due to his mother’s driving,” which she admitted had gone up to 241 kilometres per hour.

The boy was unsuccessful, though, because the doors were locked, the arrest citation said.

Ms Jairam’s blood alcohol level was 0.161 when she was apprehended, twice the level at which a person is legally considered drunk. She was also slurring her speech, officers said.

Ms Jairam was taken to the Fayette County Detention Centre in lieu of an almost $3,500 bond, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported. She was scheduled for an initial court appearance on Monday.

This was not the first time she had gotten in trouble with the law. Ms Jairam had been charged public intoxication and speeding in the past according to court records.

It’s unknown how old Ms Jairam’s son is.
