Mum victim of alleged sex attack as young daughters slept nearby
A man has been arrested after an alleged brazen daylight sex attack on a young mother in her home in Adelaide.
Police vowed to leave no stone unturned after the 20-year-old mother from Salisbury North was allegedly attacked while her young daughters, aged two and three, slept in rooms nearby.
On Friday afternoon they arrested a man two suburbs away in Waterloo Corner.
Police allege the 25-year-old targeted the young woman as she slept on her couch on Thursday afternoon.
The victim allegedly woke up to find the man staring at her.
“The victim is how you’d expect her to be, she’s obviously traumatised,” SA Police chief inspector Denise Gray said.
Police said they are not sure if the children witnessed the attack, but a neighbour who rushed to her aid, said they would have heard her screams.
“She was pushing him out the door,” the neighbour said.
“‘Get out of my house, get out of my house!’ She was hysterical.”
The victim is understood to have fought the man off, who fled the house on foot.
“That’s very scary, I have kids and a lot of times I’m by myself,” one neighbour said.
“Petrified, because it was broad daylight. You wouldn’t expect that sort of thing in broad daylight, but that’s what happened,” another woman said.
The arrested man is expected to face court on Monday charged with aggravated criminal trespass and sexual assault.
He is also accused of putting up a fight when arrested and will be charged with assaulting a detective.
