'Life is still in danger': Mum stabbed 38 times after asking for divorce

A woman is lucky to be alive after allegedly being stabbed by her husband 38 times when she insisted she wanted a divorce.

Aycan Kinci, 23, from Turkey, had been invited to a doner kebab restaurant by hubby Burak Kinci, 26, to have a discussion about their relationship on November 3 last year.

Aycan, a mum of two, said that he wanted to get her to change her mind after she had filed for divorce after years of alleged abuse.

He had apparently been convinced that she would change her mind, and when she did not, he allegedly flew into a violent rage.

According to Aycan, when she said she did not want to reconcile with him, her estranged husband told her: “Then enjoy your meal because it is going to be your last one. If you don’t love me, you won’t love anyone.”

He then allegedly took a hunting knife out of his pocket and attacked the woman, stabbing her 38 times in the middle of the crowded restaurant.

Aycan recalls the terrifying attack, saying: “I wanted to defend myself but he kept stabbing.

"I turned my back on the knife and I asked people for help. Some of those who were present ran away, others threw chairs and plates and tried to stop him."

Aycan was eventually able to remove the knife from her attacker’s hand, despite horrific injuries, and was then pulled to safety by the crowd.

The severely injured Aycan was rushed to Cigli Training and Research Hospital.

After many surgeries, a lost kidney and 15 days in the intensive care, Aycan was declared finally on the road to recovery .

Burak Kinci was arrested and taken into custody after running away from the restaurant.

The Karsiyaka Public Prosecutor's Office is demanding a prison sentence of up to 20 years for premeditated murder.

Aycan asks for even heavier punishment for her attacker, saying: “I don't want him to get out of prison ever, because he may want to finish what he started. My life is still in danger.”
