Mum's dangerous find inside child's lunch box

A mum has issued a warning to other families after noticing her daughter’s Bento Kids lunch box smelled “funny”.

The mum, from Perth, wrote on Facebook warning other to “please be careful when buying old version bento boxes”.

Bento boxes are a type of Japanese lunch box with separate sections for different foods.

“Make sure you buy the new ones where the inner silicone insert can be removed and washed,” she wrote.

“I took apart my daughter’s bento box because it was smelling funny and it was full of mould.”

The mum added she “always” handwashes the box and air dries it but water somehow got behind the compartment insert.

Andrea Kerr, who owns Bento Kids, told Kidspot in October she did not want any child out there with mouldy boxes.

She added only a few bento boxes had been affected by the issue and claimed it was down to problems with the manufacturer.

Bento Kids has been contacted for further comment.

Earlier this week, Yahoo News Australia lifted the lid on the “five second rule” which is commonly referred to when people drop food on the floor.
