Mum, 47, and son found dead at Brisbane home identified: 'Traumatic'

A 49-year-old man has been charged with murder after a woman and her son were found dead at a home in Brisbane’s south on Monday.

The body of Jifeng ‘Eileen’ Liu, 47, was discovered at the property in Coolidge Court, Stretton at about 9.40am, police confirmed to the ABC.

Her son Sam, 20, was also found dead. It’s alleged the pair were killed in a bloodied and “frenzied attack”.

Their bodies were found at the top of the home’s blood-stained staircase after the man, who is now in custody, called the police for help.

During a press conference on Tuesday morning, Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham confirmed the victims were mother and son, and that they had recently been living at the home with the man who is now in custody.

The 49-year-old and Ms Liu had been "in a relationship for some months", he said.

Det Supt Massingham, who previously described the scene as "traumatic", also revealed the two bladed weapons found in the home were a long-handled knife and a meat cleaver.

"We now believe that these homicides occurred in the early hours of Monday morning," he said.

The detective said police had received information overnight that the man who has been charged left the home in a silver SUV, which is still parked to the left of the residence, at around 4.22am and was gone for 31 minutes.

"The exact location of that vehicle for that period of time still remains a mystery," he said, urging anyone who may have seen the car, or have CCTV or dashcam footage, to call Crime Stoppers.

Man charged with two counts of murder

The 49-year-old man, who speaks Cantonese, raised the alarm on Monday by calling triple-zero and telling authorities he needed assistance for his injuries.

He met police at the front door where he was seen with injuries to his arms and legs, and let officers inside.

"Police then ascended the internal staircase, and noticed a large amount of blood on the staircase," Det Supt Massingham said.

"Immediately upon arrival on the second level of the premises they've identified the location of two bodies.

"The scene was confronting and has been described as a frenzied attack on the two deceased persons."

The man was taken to hospital, where he remains. He has been charged him with two counts of murder and is expected to have a bedside hearing on Tuesday.

Mourners gather at scene

A family friend told the Courier Mail that Ms Liu, who owned an inner-city restaurant, lived at the home with her son after getting divorced about five years ago.

A man who arrived at the scene on Monday told the publication he was her former partner and Sam’s dad.

He was escorted into the home by officers.

Several people were seen crying in front of the property after police established a crime scene.
