Multiple injuries and destroyed buildings after tornado rips through NSW

A tornado has surged through the central west of NSW, injuring three people, ripping down powerlines and destroying buildings and trees in its path.

Bureau of Meteorologist senior climatologist Agata Imielska said there was damage to the Clear Creek area northeast of Bathurst on Thursday afternoon.

The tornado travelled along a 30km line running roughly northwest, she said.

Three people were injured including a man in his 40s with cuts to his arms and a woman with neck and back injuries, the ABC reported.

At around 1.55pm, paramedics were called to Curly Dick Road in Meadow Flat after a house was destroyed.

Paramedics assessed a man, believed to be aged in his 40s, for an injury to his arm and he was transported to Orange Hospital in a stable condition.

"It's not every day you get called out to a tornado and this one packed quite a punch," Inspector Meah Ferguson said, who was at Meadow Flat.

"When we arrived on scene we found extensive damage to the patient's dwelling and surrounding areas.

"When you look at the kind of damage the tornado caused, it's lucky the patient escaped with relatively minor injuries."

Paramedics were also called to Limekilns Road in Clear Creek, following storm damage to the home.

A male and a female were assessed upon arrival, the man suffered cuts to his face and did not require transport,

The female suffered back and neck injuries and she was transported to Bathurst Hospital in a stable condition

The tornado is part of a larger weather system that has been causing severe thunderstorms around parts of the NSW and the ACT for several days.

BOM said warnings continue and more storms are currently ongoing in different areas.

"So people need to check their local areas as the situation is volatile," BOM said in a statement.

Around 120 homes are expected to be without power overnight.

Peel resident Kathy Jones said she saw a "big, black cloud" in the sky and came home to see her house "swirling around".

"There's broken windows, you always think you can go and hide under a bed but there's glass everywhere in the house, even ... the chimney's torn out of it so there's smoke all in the house," the ABC reported her saying.

"There's trees just up against the fence, the chooks yard is all blown down, there's chooks everywhere."
