Mother makes tearful plea for teen son's attackers to come forward

The mother of a teenage boy punched and stomped on at a birthday party has made a tearful plea for her son's attackers to hand themselves in.

"I rushed to the hospital and saw him from the distance with tubes all over him. I thought he was never going to wake up," the mother told 7 News.

"The hardest thing that I've ever had to see in my life, I thought I was going to lose my son".

On Friday night, the 16-year-old was at a birthday party at Matraville, when up to eight gatecrashers arrived starting trouble.

Unconscious - he was then kicked in the head and stomped on.

The trauma to his face was so severe that three of his teeth were knocked out.

"The neighbour apparently saved his life. He was choking on his own blood, lying there unconscious," the mother said.

While the victim recovers in hospital, police say they have idenitifed a young group of people that they would like to speak to over the attack.

The group was captured on security cameras at a nearby bottle shop before the party.

Inspector Aaron Wundealich said, "Police would like to speak to them at some point in this investigation. We've spoken to a number of witnesses already."

"I describe the assault as being cowardly, very vicious and certainly unacceptable in our community."

The young victim's mother has a message for her son's attackers.

"Be a man, like you were when you did what you did to a child," the mother said.
