A Virginia mother and nurse who disappeared at the end of July is missing under “involuntary circumstances,” the City of Manassas Park Police Department says.

Mamta Kafle, 28, was last seen on July 31 in Manassas Park, Va., the department said in a release on Thursday, Aug. 8. She is referred to as Mamta Kafle Bhatt on online platforms created by friends and family to assist in her search.

Nadia Navarro, a friend and former roommate of Bhatt's, told local outlet Inside Nova that she got a call from Bhatt on Aug. 28, three days before the woman was last seen, but didn't get a chance to answer her or return her call.

A Facebook page created to help search for Bhatt alleges that the pediatric nurse never made it to her work shift on Aug. 1. On Aug. 2, a welfare check was conducted in connection with the case, Manassas Park police tells PEOPLE. Her husband reported her missing on Aug. 5, police say.

A devoted mother to her 10-month-old daughter, Bhatt “would have never left her behind,” her loved ones said in a Facebook post.

"This is unlike her," her friend Sunita Basnet Thapa told NBC 4 Washington at a rally on Monday, Aug. 12. "So, you know, I'm so much worried and it's been many days."

Bhatt's husband told supporters at the rally through the phone, that he "need[s] to find her as soon as possible, using all the tools, community, society, police," per the outlet.

Bhatt is a native of Nepal and has been living in the U.S. since 2021, per Inside Nova. All of her family, except her husband and child, live in Nepal.

According to a post on the Facebook page organizing to find her, Bhatt was reportedly attempting to separate from her husband and had joined a support group for single mothers.

"We are investigating all possible circumstances," Manassas Park police said on Tuesday, per Inside Nova.

"This is a loving mother missing," Thapa told the outlet. "She is very strong, determined and hardworking."

"We're anxious, we're frustrated, but we're hopeful we find her," Navarro told the outlet. "We love her very much."
