The most complained about tourist attraction in the world

One famous tourist attraction has come in miles ahead of its global competition when ranked according to how many people registered passionate complaints.

Making up a whopping 402 hours worth of negative reviews, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, has been found to be the most complained about tourist attraction in the world.

While it has maintained a 4.5-star rating out of five on TripAdvisor, it has attracted 19,303 negative reviews, which took an accumulative 24,129 minutes, amounting to about 402 hours.

The data was collated by Uswitch, a UK-based price comparison service, which found the Eiffel Tower to have attracted nearly 10 times more negative reviews than the Colosseum in Rome, Italy.

Among those to complain about the Eiffel Tower was a reviewer who visited in October last year who described the area as “dirty” and “filled with rats, just like the entire city”.

“The lights of the tower go off at 1am, you can't even enjoy or admire this iconic place,” they added.

Someone else said it was nothing more than a “big hunk of steel that acts as a reference for navigation”.

“Nothing special, too commercial. Too many street vendors and people wondering why they came there in the first place,” they wrote.

The Colosseum also maintained a 4.5-star Trip Advisor rating, but only had 1,944 negative reviews which took reviewers just over 40 hours accumulatively.

Behind the Italian hotspot was the UK’s famous Big Ben in London, with 1,597 negative reviews, the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt with 1,460 negative reviews and New York’s Statue of Liberty with 1,089.

Unlike it’s aforementioned attractions, the Hollywood Sign in Los Angeles, in the US, had a four-star TripAdvisor rating, but still had far fewer negative reviews, attracting just 435.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge had even fewer bad reviews at just 299, and a 4.5-star rating on TripAdvisor, while the Taj Mahal in Agra, India had five stars and 301 negative reviews.

The three least complained about global attractions were found to be the Berlin Wall in Germany, the Grand Canyon South Rim, in Arizona, US, and the Great Wall of China in Beijing, China.

The final three attracted 199, 163 and 114 negative reviews respectively, with all but the Berlin Wall – which had 4.5 stars – having a five-star rating on TripAdvisor.

Data also revealed the male and female names of people who left the most scathing negative reviews.

The female name that dished out the most “poor” or “terrible” TripAdvisor reviews was Kim, with Karen perhaps unsurprisingly coming in second.

The male name to leave the most “poor” or “terrible” reviews was Paul.
