More jail for man who raped expecting mum

A man who raped his stepson's intellectually disabled and pregnant former partner will spent longer in jail.

The man was originally jailed for up to six-and-a-half years. His sentence was increased to nine years by Victoria's Court of Appeal on Wednesday.

Then aged 68, the man twice raped his stepson's former partner in July 2018 after telling her to look at his penis tattoo.

The 31-year-old woman was 18 weeks' pregnant. Her IQ of 69 was two points lower than her rapist's.

The man, who cannot be named to protect his victim's identity, initially told police: "This girl can friggen make some good stories up".

He ended up pleading guilty to two counts of rape and one count of breaching his reporting obligations as a registered sex offender.

Prosecutors argued the original sentence was inadequate and the Court of Appeal agreed.

It said he had a "woeful" history of sexual offending against vulnerable people, and previous stints in jail didn't seem to have deterred him.

He was ordered to serve at least six years behind bars before becoming eligible for parole. His original non-parole period was four years and two months.
