'Flabbergasted': How man's glovebox find led to $1 million lotto win
A man discovered he had become a millionaire after realising he left his winning lottery ticket in his car’s glovebox for days.
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, hails from Sydney’s southern suburb of Kogarah and won the division-one prize of $1 million in Monday’s draw.
“I only just remembered I had a ticket which had been sitting in my glove box all week,” the man told The Lott.
The Kogarah man said he went to the newsagency and the computer screen “went all funny” when he checked his ticket.
“Are you serious?” he questioned after finding out he had won the prize, wondering if he was dreaming.
“I’m flabbergasted. The most I’ve even won in my life is about $50.”
The man said he could not wait for his wife to come home so he could tell her the good news, adding this would set the couple up for retirement and give them “so many options”.
“To win one million dollars for me, my wife and my children is absolutely amazing,” he said.
“I’m going to help out my beautiful children, and I’m going to spoil my wife and entire family rotten.
“I can’t wait to surprise them with his news.”
The man said he would probably take a “big break” and once the news sets in he will think of what he can do with the money.

This is the second time a customer had purchased a winning ticket from Kogarah Railway News.
“It’s such an incredible feeling knowing that we’ve helped change someone’s life,” employee Sam Ghobreal said.
“Congratulations to our winner. We hope plenty more of our customers can experience an amazing win.”
Similarly, last month a 33-year-old tradesman from Perth found out he was a millionaire for over a month and he had his winning ticket sitting in his glovebox.
The tradesman said he worked up north and, due to the cyclone, he was held up over the Christmas and New Year period.
However, even when he heard about the winner purchasing the ticket from Ballajura, he didn’t “put two and two together” and was unaware he had won the $1,089,093.
In 2019, through the Monday and Wednesday Lotto entries, division-one winners across Australia won a collective $106 million.
