Moment truck crashes into power lines
Footage has emerged showing the moment a truck crashed into a set of overhead powerlines, causing commuter chaos for thousands.
Emergency services were called to the scene after police received reports a truck load had become tangled with powerlines at the level crossing on Beams Rd in Carseldine in Brisbane’s north about 5.20am on Monday.
CCTV captured the moment sparks flew after the load struck the overhead powerlines.
The incident caused disruption to the train network for several hours across Monday, leaving thousands of people stranded or seeking alternative travel arraignments.
Services on the Caboolture, Kippa-Ring, and Sunshine Coast lines between the Petrie and Northgate stations were suspended for travellers in both directions.
Queensland Rail Head of Corporate Affairs Nev Conway said crews began working immediately to ensure the train lines could get back up and running as soon as possible.
“To ensure safety, we immediately de-energised the overhead powerlines and suspended rail traffic between Petrie and Northgate stations which impacted customers on the Redcliffe-Peninsula, Caboolture and Sunshine Coast lines.
Trains resumed as normal from about 4pm on Monday, however it’s understood commuters still experienced some delays because of the backlog on the network.
Queensland Rail confirmed all lines were back up and running at an operational level about 8.15pm on Monday.
