Politician accused of punching wife for undressing too slowly

A politician allegedly punched his wife in the face during a drunken evening at home because she was taking too long to remove her clothes before sex.

The public has called on Mississippi state representative Douglas McLeod, 58, to resign following allegations he violently attacked his partner on Saturday (local time).

Police said officers arrived at McLeod’s home to find him holding a glass of alcohol and showing strong signs of intoxication, George County Sheriff's Office said.

He allegedly replied, "Are you kidding me?", when police said they had been called to his home after a report of an assault, according to an incident report obtained by BuzzFeed News.

Police said he was walking in a “zig-zag” motion and at one point had to reach for a railing to support himself.

His wife reportedly was covered in blood and trembling with fear, telling police her husband had “snapped” much like he often did when he drank too much alcohol.

A second woman at the home told police the reason for Mr McLeod’s outburst was that he wanted to have sex, but his wife wasn’t removing her clothes quick enough.

She said the terrified woman hid inside her room with the door locked as Mr McLeod yelled at her from the other side saying he "was going to kill her f**king dog”, according to police.

Police arrested McLeod on a domestic violence charge and detained him at the George County jail before being released on a US$1000 bond (AU$1445), BuzzFeed News said.
