Mum's emotional plea after daughter vanishes from beach: 'Nightmare'

A mum has issued an emotional plea to the people she believes are responsible for her daughter's disappearance.

Breanna Muriwai, 22, was last seen on Te Horo Beach, on New Zealand's north island, on August 28, with police still scrambling for information on her whereabouts.

Police revealed her mobile phone was found on the same beach on October 7. A week later, a purple suitcase investigators believe "is significant to the investigation" was found on the same stretch of sand.

Claim's about woman's disappearance

The missing woman's mother Jasmin Gray has taken to Facebook regularly in search of her daughter, begging her to come home.

In a post on Monday, she addressed "two people" who she claims were with the 22-year-old when she disappeared. Police were not able to confirm that Breanna was with anyone when she vanished, the New Zealand Herald reports.

"It's been 8wks (sic) of undescribable (sic) pain for me and my family now, just let us know where Breanna is so we can come out of this nightmare and get on with life," she wrote.

"I know both of you have kids of your own, think of them if you have a heart and just imagine if this was happening to one of them."

She called on family members of those she claims know about her daughter's whereabouts to "plz help us get our girl back".

"We love you bub and we're not giving up til you're home x Mum," she wrote.

Last week, Ms Gray told people to "start talking" if they knew anything about where her daughter might be.

"I know you muppets are watching my posts! Let us know where she is," she wrote.

"Wherever you are bub, you stay strong and keep fighting to come home."

Police looking for information

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thompson spoke of the ongoing investigation earlier this month as authorities seek information from the public.

"The clear focus of the investigation is to find Breanna and to establish the circumstances of what led Breanna to be at Te Horo Beach," he told media.

The phone they found belonging to Mr Muriwai is being examined. Investigators are also trying to find out more information about the purple bag they discovered.

"We know it was on Te Horo beach near the Sea Road beach access on the morning of Sunday 28 August. We also know that it was removed from that area mid-afternoon on the same day," Srgt Thompson said.

"We are seeking anyone that saw this bag on the beach or saw it being picked up to contact Police. We are also appealing to anyone who may have information as to its current location.

"The investigation team believe its recovery will assist with the circumstances of Breanna’s disappearance."
