Miriam Margolyes shocked This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby by breaking wind in front of them.

The 80-year-old Harry Potter star appeared on the ITV show as a guest agony aunt, offering life advice to callers, and left the presenters struggling for words after she broke wind in the studio during an advert break.

Schofield laughed: "Professionally I should pull myself together but Miriam's just done the most enormous fart!"

Schofield retorted: "You outed it! Just before we came out of the break, there was no pulling myself together there. On purpose, it wasn't as if she tried to keep it in. She lifted up [her leg] and said, 'That's better.'"

Margolyes went on to admit that — despite her outgoing personality — she had been embarrassed by the incident, as she discussed self confidence with a caller.

She confessed: “I definitely feel embarrassment. Mostly at myself. When I said something rude or just now when I farted, momentarily I am embarrassed.

“When you are embarrassed you’re at your most open and charming. Don’t fight it.”

The actor later discussed her new TV series Lost In Scotland, in which she and The Good Wife star Alan Cumming travel the highlands in a campervan.

Margolyes revealed that Cumming was tasked with emptying the toilet onboard the mobile home, as she had had it written into her contract that she didn't have to.

The Call The Midwife star is a favourite guest on This Morning and recently told Schofield that she knew he was gay before he came out in February 2020.
