Mercedes driver fined $2520 for illegal act with three kids

Police in Sydney have made an alarming discovery inside a $254,000 Mercedes after its driver was caught speeding at 150km/h.

The luxury vehicle, a black Mercedes AMG E63S, was detected driving 70kmh over the speed limit along the Warringah Freeway in North Sydney on Saturday afternoon, NSW Police say.

When highway patrol officers pulled the Mercedes over, they found three young children, two girls and a boy, inside, police say. They were aged 8, 5 and 2.

The 37-year-old driver, from Kellyville Ridge in the Sydney's northwest, was hit with a $2520 fine and six demerit points. His licence was suspended on the spot for six months.

As the vehicle was registered to a company, NSW Police were unable to apply any vehicle sanctions, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command said in a Facebook post on Sunday.

The post prompted disbelief from scores of users, with some suggesting the punishment for the driver was lenient.

"Laws definitely need tightening," one person said.

"Three innocent children could have been seriously injured," another said.

The Department of Communities and Justice have been made aware of the incident, and were issued a 'Child At Risk' notification.

The Mercedes AMG E63S has a starting price of $253,900, according to CarAdvice.
