Men bungle motorbike store robbery

Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy and are hunting for another three men, after a bungled attempt at robbing a motorcycle store at Evanston, in Adelaide's northern suburbs overnight.

The group drove a stolen white van through the roller door at Mick's Motorbikes on Main North Road, setting the security alarm off on impact.

From there, security cameras capture the thieves trying to steal whatever motorbikes they could, one trying to start a quad-bike but quickly abandoned that idea when he couldn't get it going.

They loaded three trail bikes and two scooters into the back of their van.

When police arrived, patrols saw the van trying to leave the scene.

But as the van sped off, a scooter fell out of the back of the van, and then the driver ran over another scooter, dragging it under the vehicle for about 500 metres.

The van was later forced to stop, as sparks from the scooter caused the van to set alight, with the vehicle quickly becoming engulfed in flames.

Police arrested the alleged driver, a 16-year-old boy from Craigmore.

Police say they expect to charge him for theft of motorcycles and for breaking into the shop.

The other three men involved managed to run off.

The fire completely destroyed the three motorcycles, and remaining scooter.

Today, the owners of the motorbike shop said the thieves only managed to steal second-hand scooters, that were awaiting repairs to be sold on.
