A 33-year-old woman is dead and three others are injured after a horror smash involving a Ferrari and a Ford sedan southeast of Melbourne.

The two cars crashed at Cockatoo just after 1pm on Sunday and the Point Cook woman, who was a passenger in the luxury vehicle, died at the scene.

The male Ferrari driver was taken to Dandenong hospital in a stable condition and was assisting police with their inquiries.

An ambulance spokesman said another woman was taken to the Alfred Hospital in a serious condition with pelvis and chest injuries while the second man was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

The woman's death brings Victoria's road toll to 132, 16 less than the same time last year.
