Devastated parents hunt for 'stolen' phone with photos of baby 'in her last days'

A heartbroken family have launched an appeal to find a phone they say someone stole that contains photos of their sick baby girl who is “in her last days”.

Jay Windross, who lives in Boronia in Melbourne’s east, took to Facebook on Saturday appealing for the return of the phone which belongs to his wife, Dee.

Ms Windross’s Samsung Galaxy S8, which has a purple cover, was taken from a toilet next to Target in Chadstone Shopping Centre on Saturday about 5.30pm.

“Our 11-month-old daughter (Amiyah) is currently deteriorating in ICU and is in her last days with us and this phone holds all our memories of her,” Mr Windross wrote.

“We understand that you have either found a new phone to use, or you can sell it to make money, but please understand that this means more than money to us.

‘This is worth life to us. If it's money you need, we will gladly offer you a cash reward for the return of the phone. No questions asked. No grudge held.”

Mr Windross added as “grieving parents” he and his wife are “begging” whoever has the phone in their possession not to wipe it clean of its data.

“This phone holds the memories of what little life our daughter has had. If you want the phone, we're more than happy to arrange to meet, we'll copy the photos off the phone and you can keep the phone,” he wrote.

“What is on the phone is worth more than anything in our life.

“I'd like to make this transaction amicably and without the intervention of the police.”

The dad added whoever had the phone could drop it off at Melbourne’s Monash Children’s Hospital or at any information desk at Chadstone Shopping Centre.

His post has since been shared more than 71,000 times.

“Dear God this is so awful,” one woman wrote.

“I am so very sorry for you. I pray you will get your phone back. God bless your little daughter and you.”
