Man claims he was 'too busy' to collect $3.3m jackpot

A Melbourne man who scooped $3.3 million on the lottery has claimed he was “too busy” to collect his winnings.

It took the St Albans winner in his 40s four days to eventually collect his gargantuan windfall from the Tatts Lotto draw on Saturday.

As an unregistered entry, The Lott officials were unable to track down the winner, who eventually came forward on Wednesday for the $3,340,539.04 total.

“I’ve known since Saturday night, but haven’t had the time to get it. We’ve been running around, getting organised,” he told The Lott.

“It’s been quite a crazy few days.”

While many vow to quit their jobs in a flash if they ever scored a multi-million lottery haul, the lucky winner said he’ll continue working and use the prize to set his family up for the future.

“We’re going to buy our first ever house – we’re still renting,” he said.

“We’ll also get some investments to build a portfolio for the future. We want to benefit the family for many years to come.”

He said when he called his father to tell him the news, he dropped the phone in shock.

“Luckily the phone still works!” he joked.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his entry at St Albans Lotto & Newsagency, 304 Main Road East, St Albans.

The winning numbers in TattsLotto draw 3945 on Saturday 11 May 2019 were 27, 32, 44, 28, 34 and 17, while the supplementary numbers were 22 and 8.

The winner said he’d been using the numbers for “quite a long time”.

Across Australia, there were six division one winning entries in TattsLotto draw 3945, two from Victoria, three from Queensland and one from Western Australia.
