Controversial Sydney businessman Salim Mehajer was behaving like a "lovesick puppy" when he intimidated his ex-wife through email and social media messages, according to his lawyer.
The 31-year-old was on Thursday placed on an 18-month good behaviour bond after Magistrate Jacqueline Trad found him guilty and recorded a conviction.
His lawyer Zali Burrows said Mehajer was a "lovesick puppy" when he contacted Aysha Learmonth last year in the hope of reconnecting with her.
But that's no longer the case and Mehajer is planning a future with his new partner, she added.
"He's only guilty of loving his wife, not guilty of intimidation," Ms Burrows told reporters outside court.
Mehajer appeared via audio visual link from prison after last week being arrested for breaching bail over another matter.
