Meghan's dad is recovering from heart surgery
Meghan Markle’s father, who has been at the centre of a storm of controversy over the past few days, is recovering in hospital following a successful heart operation.
Thomas Markle Sr. had a number of stents placed in his blood vessels after his heart was “severely damaged” as a result of a heart attack last week, TMZ reports.
The publication says the 73-year-old is “alert and coherent” but it’s as yet unknown how long he will need to stay in hospital.
Yesterday Thomas backflipped on his decision not to attend the royal wedding, saying he would love to walk his daughter down the aisle should his health permit it.
However, it seems unlikely the father-of-three, who lives in Mexico, will be well enough to take the long-haul flight over to London in time for Saturday’s nuptials.
Meanwhile, Meghan’s mum Doria Ragland has touched down in the UK to be by her daughter’s side.
According to an official statement from the palace earlier this month, she is due to meet with the Queen and Prince Charles before the big day.
Yoga teacher Doria and Meghan’s father Thomas have been separated since the actress was six years old.
Thomas has blamed his ill health on his son Thomas Markle Jr. who caused him an incredible amount of stress when he published an open letter to Prince Harry urging him not to marry his half-sister.
The Markles, particularly Thomas Jr. and Meghan’s half-sister Samantha, have been regularly in the headlines with disparaging comments about the future princess.
They were already teenagers when Meghan was born and they’ve been estranged from the former Suits star for a decade. Neither have been invited to the royal wedding.
