Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are expecting their first child together.

Just hours after touching down in Sydney, Kensington Palace released a statement announcing the happy news.

“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019,” the palace said in statement on Twitter.

“Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.”

The 34-year-old Duke and 37-year-old Duchess of Sussex’s tour is set to officially kick off tomorrow until October 21st.

During that time, they will take in all the sights of Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand, meeting with locals and carrying out engagements at the Invictus Games in Sydney.

Kensington Palace revealed that their trip “will focus on youth leadership, and projects being undertaken by young people to address the social, economic, and environmental challenges of the region”.

What will Meghan and Harry call their baby?

Following the birth of Wills and Kate’s third child, Prince Louis, earlier this year, royal baby fever can well and truly continue with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex expecting.

The main question will be: what will the couple name the royal baby?

“At this stage Diana, Arthur and Alice, which was favourite at different stages for Kate and William’s babies, are the 12/1 front runners,” Betfair spokeperson Katie Baylis told The Express.

“However, with months until the baby is born, those odds will shorten, change and other names will come to the forefront, so watch this space.”

In terms of their child’s last name, the newlyweds may in fact call their children by the surname Sussex.

This follows the same suit Prince William and Kate Middleton have done for their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and newborn Prince Louis.

Last year, it was announced that Prince George would be known officially as George Cambridge when he started school at Thomas’ Battersea in London – a name which stems from his father and mother being the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Relationship timeline of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

Harry and Meghan went public with their blossoming relationship in November 2016 after they met and first started dating in May that year.

While their paths hadn’t crossed before then, Meghan already had a lot in common with the prince thanks to her extensive charity work. She’s been the face of World Vision Canada in Africa, and recently visited India in aid of young women in need – features which would no doubt have impressed her late mother-in-law Diana, who was a fierce humanitarian.

After 18 months of dating, the couple announced their engagement in November 2017.

Prince Harry designed the ring himself and with the help of Cleave and Company and he made sure to use personal touches to make the ring extra special.

“The ring is – is obviously yellow gold because that’s what – her favourite and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana,” Harry said in his first interview with Meghan to the BBC.

Five months later on May 19 2018, Harry and Meghan wed in a lavish ceremony in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Later that evening, she brought some Hollywood glamour to her wedding day with the choice of her stunning second wedding dress designed by Stella McCartney.
