Meghan and Harry to spend Christmas morning apart

It may be their first festive season as a married couple, but Meghan Markle and Prince Harry won’t be spending Christmas morning together, according to a royal expert.

The 34-year-old Duke and 37-year-old Duchess of Sussex are due to appear with the rest of royal family at Sandringham on Christmas Day, for their annual pilgrimage to church.

However, despite the couple being inseparable ever since they tied the knot on May 19th, royal tradition will see them spending time alone before joining the rest of the clan.

Darren McGrady, who is the Queen’s former chef, told the Mail on Sunday that the royal women usually have a light breakfast in their rooms, while the men gather at 8:30am downstairs for a breakfast of bacon, eggs, mushrooms, grilled kidneys and kippers.

Former royal butler Grant Harrold seconded the claims, saying the men and women are quite separated in the royal family on Christmas morning.

“The reason it happens is because it’s an old tradition that when a couple are married, the gentleman would come down for breakfast and the ladies would remain upstairs,” he said.

“All the ladies would have breakfast in bed apart from the single ladies.

“The single ladies have to be seen as ‘sociable’ whereas the ladies who were married didn’t have to come down and socialise.”

However, it’s highly likely Prince Harry would be up for shunning this royal tradition, especially considering he decided to sit out the annual royal hunt last year, out of respect for how Meghan feels about hunting animals.

As well as being newlyweds, who obviously want to spend the festive season together, Harry and Meghan would also want to be together due to the fact that it’s Meghan’s mum, Doria’s, first Christmas with the pair.
