A man who pocketed a whopping $10 million lottery win has promised to share his newfound riches with people from far and wide.
The Sydney winner purchased his winning Oz Lotto entry from newsXpress Crows Nest, north of the city, and came forward to claim his Division One prize on Wednesday, according to a statement from The Lott.
Ecstatic with the news, he said he would be sharing the win with relatives and multiple charities to help people who had experienced less luck than himself.
“This prize will be shared and enjoyed by so many people. I’m certainly going to donate a lot to the charities that are really important to me, and help people who haven’t had as much good luck as I have,” he said.
“I just want to look after my family and ensure they’re set up forever. I want to be very charitable and share this with so many people. I’m incredibly grateful.”
It was by sheer coincidence that he found out he won big, having initially popped into the newsagent for another ticket.
“I went to the newsagency just now to buy a ticket for tonight’s lotto draw and thought I’d better check my Oz Lotto entry. When the lady at the newsagency said I’d won Division One it was quite a surprise.
“I got so excited. I really feel like this prize is meant to be.”
The winning numbers were 24, 4, 36, 23, 42, 8 and 30. The supplementary numbers were 21 and 37.
There was only one Division One winning entry - belonging to the lucky Sydney winner.
In the 12 months to 30 June 2019, there were 17 Division One winning Oz Lotto entries across Australia, which collectively won more than $334 million.
The biggest Oz Lotto jackpot was $80 million on 25 June 2019, which was won by two Division One winning entries that took home $40 million each.
