Major car recall over fears defects could lead to crashes

Drivers are being urged to check the make of their vehicles after several models were recalled over potentially serious safety issues that could increase the risk of an accident.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) recalled thousands of models from 2007 to 2019 due to defects with wheels, brakes, headlights and windscreens.

There may be a small gap between the wheel studs and hub assembly, causing loss of control of the vehicle and a knocking noise.

It could also risk the wheel falling off the vehicle.

“The stability of the vehicle may be affected, increasing the risk of loss of vehicle control and potentially resulting in an accident injuring vehicle occupants and other road users,” the ACCC said.
