A driver who caused mayhem as he tried to outrun police was clocked doing 120km/h in residential streets south of Brisbane.

Police say the driver sped off, almost hit other cars, and did burn-outs after they tried to pull him over at Logan Central on Sunday afternoon.

The police chopper helped track the driver, who crashed into another vehicle as he fled at dangerous speeds. Dog squad officers arrested him after he abandoned his car at Eagleby and he'll front court on Monday.
